The pressure-treating process soaks the wood, preventing coatings from adhering well when newly installed. It’s best to allow the surface to dry completely, as the drying time can vary.

An easy test is to splash or sprinkle water on the surface. If the water beads, more drying time is needed. If the water droplets soak into the wood, the surface can be coated. Clean the deck at that time, and allow it to dry for one or two days before applying a stain. Once fully dry, coat pressure-treated decks with one of our stain products.

We highly recommend matte or flat paint for deep colors and ceilings. Flat or matte paint hides imperfections and is easy to touch up. For walls, use eggshell paint, and for trim, use satin or semigloss paint.

Yes, you can paint over stained wood. However, it’s crucial to prepare the wood surface to prevent the stain from bleeding through the paint, resulting in a messy or unappealing finish.
The preparation process involves surface cleaning to remove dirt and dust, light sanding, and deglossing to strip the surface.
Additionally, water-based wood stain and oil-based wood stain require different preparation methods for painting:
– If you’re painting over a water-based wood stain, use a water-based latex primer first.
– For an oil-based wood stain, apply a trisodium phosphate (TSP) and water mixture to the wood (allowing it to dry), followed by a water-based bonding primer before painting.
